Rewild Organics was born of forest farmers in the mountains of Costa Rica. We believe that food is medicine for the body, mind, and spirit. Our mission? To nurture and protect the rainforest we call home by cultivating and crafting plant medicines that bring nourishment and balance to people everywhere.
Human beings, as animals, are a part of the natural world. Our species has the potential to gently enhance natural systems in favor of balance and biodiversity. As a collective of farmers, friends, and families, we are working every day to build a world in which water, soil, forests, and people are respected and cared for as members of a vibrant and diverse living community.
Rewild Organics is the brainchild of Blacksheep, a regenerative agroforestry company working in rural Costa Rica. We formed these companies after a Palm Oil company tried to buy land upstream from our farm. We had to protect our watershed - and we knew that there was a better way to make money.
To support a regenerative global supply chain transition, Blacksheep is building out our processing capabilities in Costa Rica. This will help fund our reforestation work and incentivize regeneration across the country by opening up market access for hundreds of other small farms and cooperatives.
Every product we sell helps us build regenerative supply chains, support the economies of small farming communities, reforest crucial wildlife habitats, and protect watersheds in our nearby rainforest.
Now and forever, we source only the highest quality organically-grown ingredients for our products.
We use the words “regenerative” and “beyond sustainable” to describe our goals and our own transitional processes as we build the supply chain from our farm to the marketplace.
What's "regenerative?" Regenerative practices prioritize the balance and biodiversity of ecosystems, including the wellbeing of intertwined human communities. Regenerative living follows an ideology of humble reciprocity with the soil, water, animals, other humans, and the plants themselves.
To us, “regenerative” is a series of ongoing practices and a way of life - not a status that is achieved or a box that is checked. The regenerative journey is a long one full of challenges. Our work has taught us that it takes patience, vulnerability, and a willingness to sacrifice ideals of instant perfection to walk this path.
We thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for embarking on the regenerative journey with us! <3
Sara is passionate about regeneration for the people and the planet. As a lifelong resident
of the Detroit area, she is familiar with the tangled nature of socioeconomic, environmental, and health issues. She has experienced first-hand the catastrophic effects on her own family and community when these things are out of alignment.
Unable to accept things as they were, Sara set out to gain a deeper understanding. Her exploration included formal education, world travel, and working with disenfranchised groups of people at home and abroad. She became acutely aware that vulnerable communities around the world, including her own, were absorbing the negative externalities of an unchecked economic system. Determined to build an alternative future where economy is generated in an equitable manner and things are left better than they were found, Sara formed Blacksheep and Rewild Organics with her friends Amanda and Joshua.
Sara grew up in the Detroit area, where she became familiar with the tangled nature of socioeconomic, environmental and health issues. She experienced, first-hand, the catastrophic effects on her own family and community when these things are out of alignment.
Her exploration included formal training in anthropology, environmental and urban studies, permaculture, travel, and working in vulnerable communities of people at home and abroad. This search for deeper understanding led her to Costa Rica, where she met Joshua and Amanda. Together, they created Blacksheep and Rewild Organics to build an ethical supply chain for products that can help heal the planet and our bodies too!
Amanda is from a small town in (what used to be) rural Virginia. As a kid, she was lucky enough to be able to spend her days barefoot, exploring the nearby woods, creeks, and pastures. She learned the names, faces, and voices of many Appalachian plants and animals. As an artist and visual storyteller, Amanda often focuses on these creatures, exploring the sacred meanings assigned to them and their relationship with the human psyche.
As Amanda grew up, she watched in dismay as her beloved forests and pastures were slowly overtaken by development and sprawl. It wasn’t until she left her office job as a graphic designer and moved to Costa Rica that she became intimately acquainted with the forces threatening the world's forests and the impact on families that can’t easily just move away. With a newfound appreciation for the art of storytelling through design and an understanding of the critical need for environmentally-conscious voices in the design and marketing industries, Amanda formed Blacksheep and Rewild with Sara and Josh. Through her work, Amanda strives to use her platform to elevate the stories and voices of the unseen and the undervalued.

Joshua grew up working in his family’s wrecking yard in southern Oregon. By
working in the auto-salvage industry, he learned the real value of what many consider
“waste.” In his early adulthood, he developed a secure recycling business. Joshua became
politically activated after 9/11 and soon left his office job to work as an activist and helped
found a biofuels cooperative.
In 2006, he relocated to rural Costa Rica to work directly on reforestation and regenerative
agriculture by founding Finca VerdEnergia Pacifica. Joshua has helped get hundreds
of thousands of trees planted in his watershed and has enjoyed leading a simple life in the
secluded jungle. He was deeply moved by being able to witness the slow revitalization of
the forest around him, having personally seen dozens of long dried-up springs flow again
with water, and the return of animals once thought to be extinct in the area. Since moving
to Costa Rica, Josh has helped train and inspire thousands of travelers, students, activists,
and young professionals in community building, DIY ethics, and regenerative business. He
founded Blacksheep along with Sara and Amanda and continues to use his platform as an
entrepreneur to transmute “trash” into treasure.
